What's on in Penrith?

A historical town which used to be the capital of Cumbria, there is loads to do and see in Penrith so check out our events list for a range of days out and fun activities.

A good place to start is the Rheged Centre, a huge facility with an indoor and outdoor play area for the kids as well as a huge cinema screen showing classic films, live streaming and all the recent Hollywood offerings. 

Make sure to pop in and sample the delicious treats at Rheged's Taste Food Hall, with products from over 50 Cumbrian suppliers. For those with a sweet tooth, the new Ice Cream Shop with homemade ice cream from Abbot Lodge will definitely make you happy in summer 2015.

If you like getting outdoors, Lowther Castle and Gardens is a great way to soak up that fresh Cumbrian air while exploring part of Penrith's history in the 350 year old castle.

Askham Hall Garden s is also situated in Penrith, with a range of nearby routes perfect for walking, running or cycling.

Continuing the outdoor theme, Aira Force Waterfall can be found by taking a stroll through some impressive ancient woodland. A perfect place for a family picnic or a winter walk worth wrapping up for.

Greystoke Cycle Cafe offer courses and workshops on pretty much anything you can think of. Whether it's painting, bushcraft, stone carving or cheese that you're interested in, you'll be able to find something to do here.

A more specialised art centre is the Upfront Gallery. A converted 17th century building which houses exhibitions, the gallery also boasts a vegetarian restaurant which serves a wide range of meals and homemade cakes.
