Comic fest announces next bigname artist

A MARVEL comic artist has been announced in the line up for the county’s fastest growing festival.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival has revealed that Becky Cloonan will be among the star gang of graphic novelists, writers and experts due to take over Kendal on October 17 – 19.

The Italian-born comic artist has worked with publishers including DC, Vertigo, Dark Horse, Harper Collins and Marvel, and won a coveted Eisner Award in 2013 for her comic The Mire.

Recently she has illustrated The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys with writers Shaun Simon and Gerard Way, and contributed to several series, including Young Avengers, Batman Black and White, and American Vampire.

Becky is the latest addition to the guest list that includes a huge range of British and overseas creators including The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard, artist Mark Buckingham, Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons, and Flemish cartoonist Peter van Heirseele.

Also on hand during the festival’s second year will be 2000AD artist Jock, self-taught Japanese artist Junko Mizuno, digital comics frontiersman Scott McCloud, leading US comics writer Gail Simone, and the creator of the multi-award winning Bone Jeff Smith. Alonside these will be Dutch underground comics artist Joost Swarte and Emma Vieceli.

More overseas guest are set to be announced in the near future, as well as further top comic creators whose work spans not just comics but design and storyboards for film and television.
