Return for popular bank holiday festival

THE popular Maryport Beer and Cider Festival will return next weekend, having been absent from the calendar in 2015.

Work on the Maryport Rugby League Club pitch last year meant that the event wasn't staged, but it returns on Saturday and Sunday with arguably its biggest line-up to date.

A more diverse line-up mixes up the genres, with the Saturday line-up welcoming Cumbrian favourites the Soul City Walkers to the stage followed by the brilliant Ska Face, a 10-piece ska band from Blackpool. They play all the classics from Madness, The Specials, Bad Manners and the Beat as well as some top Ska tunes of their own.

They will be supported by local bands No Idea, The Mayfair Suite and Mojo Rising.

Sunday is handed over to some fine tribute acts from across the country, and headliners Queen II will be faithfully recreating the energy, excitement, and emotion of a classic Queen concert. An authentic tribute, the four-piece band delivers powerful vocals, driving rock anthems and flamboyant showmanship, playing the hits from every decade of the rock legends' musical legacy.

Top Oasis tribute Definitely Mightbe also appear, producing the rousing anthems of the Manchester indie masters, and Meet the Beatles - one of the leading new tributes to the Fab Four - are also included on the line-up.

The clubhouse at the rugby club has also had a change about to put everything pitch-side, so the toilets in the clubhouse and the two bars are much more accessible.

As the name suggests, there will also be a wide selection of real ales and scrumpy ciders, wines and prosecco, as well as all the usual pub favourites.

Single day tickets are priced £15, or £25 for the weekend, and there are discounts available for booking pairs of tickets. They are available from Alauna Salon in Maryport, The Carnegie Theatre in Workington, and Maryport Rugby League Club.

Pay on the day will also be offered subject to availability.
